Helpful Hands and Hearts, a project of the Lake Gaston Retirement Village Foundation, Inc., organizes volunteers to help meet the needs of seniors who are living at home and need assistance to physically access their home, physicians, pharmacies, and more. Volunteers also make home visits with individuals who are house bound or not able to get out frequently for socialization.

The Lake Gaston area is an attractive place for retirement. A number of retirees move here and look for opportunities to help the broader community. Those joining Helpful Hands and Hearts find they are helping local folds who grew up here as well as their neighbors and friends who moved here to retire.

During the 2015 year, 47 volunteers spent almost 1,500 hours, drove over 20,000 miles and completed (or built) 19 access ramps. All of these services were provided at no cost to the recipient. HHH receives grant funding, private donations, gifts from churches, and volunteers to help cover the costs. Many recipients who are able also make a donation to HHH.   Helpful Hands and Hearts just recently celebrated the building of its 200th ramp in January 2021.  If you would like to be part of this project or need assistance, please call Helpful Hands and Hearts at 252-586-3000.
